Biography
Clare Coulter is a Canadian actress born in 1942 in Ontario. The daughter of playwright John Coulter and his wife Olive, she began working in the props department at the Stratford Festival at the age of 15 and remained there until she was 21. She trained at a theatre school in England after her family moved to London when she was nine.
Coulter has worked extensively in Canadian theatre, particularly at Toronto venues such as Tarragon Theatre and Theatre Passe Muraille. She has performed at the Stratford Festival and is noted for stage roles including a female portrayal of King Lear in 2013. She received a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 1984 for her performance in Caryl Churchill's Top Girls.
Her screen credits include By Design (1981), Away from Her (2007), Fargo (2014) as Irma, The Apprentice (2024) as Tenant Ms. Nathanson and Die My Love (2025) as Courtney, alongside appearances in series such as Severance, Star Trek: Discovery and Three Pines.
