Biography
Clive Swift was an English actor. Born Clive Walter Swift on 9 February 1936 in Liverpool, he died on 1 February 2019. He studied English literature at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1960, remaining a member until 1968. He later taught at RADA and LAMDA.
Swift appeared in films including Frenzy (1972), Excalibur (1981) and A Passage to India (1984), in which he played Major Callendar. He was best known for his role as Richard Bucket in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances (1990–1995). Other television work included appearances in Doctor Who, Inspector Morse, Midsomer Murders and The Old Guys (2009–2010). He was also a songwriter.
