Biography
Corey Fischer was an American actor. Born in Los Angeles, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Theatre Arts from UCLA. In the mid-1960s he worked in improvisational theatre in Los Angeles, notably with The Committee, before appearing in film and television.
Fischer had early film roles in Robert Altman's MASH (1970), Brewster McCloud (1970) and McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), in which he played Mr. Elliott. He appeared in numerous 1970s television comedies, including episodes of All in the Family, Sanford and Son and the television series MASH, as well as later guest roles such as Rabbi Gendler in Frasier. In 1978 he co-founded A Traveling Jewish Theatre (later the Jewish Theatre San Francisco), with which he created and performed ensemble works focused on Jewish themes until the company's closure in 2012. He died in Hayward, California, in 2020.
