Biography
Curt Siodmak was a German-born screenwriter and novelist. He wrote the screenplay for the 1941 Universal horror film The Wolf Man, which established much of the modern werewolf mythology, including the poem about the wolfbane and the silver bullet as the means of killing the creature.
Born in Dresden in 1902, Siodmak earned a doctorate in mathematics before working as a journalist and screenwriter in Germany. He contributed to the 1930 film People on Sunday. He left Germany in 1933 following the rise of the Nazis and worked in England and France before moving to the United States in 1937. In Hollywood he wrote or co-wrote numerous screenplays, including I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Son of Dracula (1943) and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956). His 1942 novel Donovan's Brain was adapted for the screen several times. He was the brother of film director Robert Siodmak. Siodmak died in California in 2000.
