Biography
Cyril Frankel (28 December 1921 – 7 June 2017) was a British film and television director. Born in Stoke Newington, London, he began his career in documentaries for the Crown Film Unit in the late 1940s before moving to feature films.
He directed episodes of series including The Avengers (1961), Department S (1969) and UFO (1970). His feature films include Man of Africa (1953), Never Take Sweets from a Stranger (1960), School for Scoundrels (1960) and The Witches (1966). Frankel later worked as a ceramics expert for Bonhams and co-authored the book Modern Pots: Hans Coper, Lucie Rie and their Contemporaries – The Lisa Sainsbury Collection (2000). His memoir Eye to Eye was published in 2009.
