Biography
David Newman is an American composer and conductor. Born David Louis Newman on 11 March 1954 in Los Angeles, California, he is the son of composer Alfred Newman, brother of composer Thomas Newman and cousin of composer Randy Newman. He trained as a violinist and conductor at the University of Southern California.
Newman has composed scores for nearly 100 feature films. His credits include Heathers (1989) and Norbit (2007). He is also known for his work on Ice Age (2002), Anastasia (1997), Matilda (1996), Serenity (2005) and Scooby-Doo (2002). Newman received an Academy Award nomination for the score to Anastasia.
