Biography
David Wu Tai Wai (also credited as Dawei Hu and Dai-Wai Woo) is a Hong Kong-Canadian film editor, director and actor. He began working as an editing apprentice at Shaw Brothers in 1970 while studying graphic design at Hong Kong Polytechnic, receiving his first official editing credit on The Spiritual Boxer (1975). He later edited for TVB and appeared in several television dramas between 1976 and 1979.
Wu is known for his long collaborations with directors John Woo and Ronny Yu. His editing credits include Hard Boiled (1992), The Bride with White Hair (1993), Bride of Chucky (1998), Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001), The 51st State (2001) and Red Cliff II (2009). He has also directed films such as Cold Steel (2011) and the mini-series Iron Road (2009).
He has received twelve nominations for the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Editing, winning for Hard Boiled (1992) and The Crossing (2014). Wu has additionally been nominated for Directors Guild of Canada and Leo Awards.
