Biography
Deirdra Elizabeth Govan is an American costume designer for film and television. She graduated from Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design, and began her career in theatre, working on Broadway productions including Miss Saigon, Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera.
Govan is known for her costume design on films such as Sorry to Bother You (2018), The Sun Is Also a Star (2019), Devotion (2022), Happiness for Beginners (2023), Exhibiting Forgiveness (2024) and Rob Peace (2024). Her television credits include Harlem (2021–2023), I'm a Virgo (2023) and First Wives Club (2019–2021). She has received nominations for a Black Reel Award for Sorry to Bother You and a NAACP Image Award for I'm a Virgo.
She serves as vice president of IATSE United Scenic Artists Local USA 829 and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2023.
