Biography
Denis Héroux (1940–2015) was a Canadian film director and producer. Born in Montreal, he began directing in the early 1960s with the student film Seul ou avec d'autres (1962) and went on to make a series of commercial features in Quebec, including Valérie (1968) and L'Initiation (1970).
From the late 1970s he focused primarily on producing, often in international co-productions. His credits include Atlantic City (1980), Quest for Fire (1981), The Plouffe Family (1981) and The Bay Boy (1984). He was a co-founder of Alliance Films and worked with directors such as Louis Malle, Jean-Jacques Annaud and Bruce Beresford.
Héroux received an Academy Award nomination for best picture as producer of Atlantic City. He won two Genie Awards for best motion picture, for The Plouffe Family and The Bay Boy, and was appointed to the Order of Canada.
