Biography
John Kemeny (1925–2012) was a Hungarian-Canadian film producer. Born in Budapest, he immigrated to Canada in 1957 and began working as an editor at the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal in 1959. Over the next twelve years he produced, wrote or edited around eighty films there.
After leaving the NFB he produced feature films including The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974). With Denis Héroux he co-founded International Cinema Corporation; their first collaboration was Louis Malle’s Atlantic City (1980), which received five Academy Award nominations including for Best Picture. He later co-founded Alliance Entertainment and produced for television, receiving a Special Achievement Genie Award in 1991.
