Biography
Dick O'Neill was an American stage, film and television character actor. Born Richard Francis O'Neill in New York City on 29 August 1928, he studied at Syracuse University and served in the US Navy before beginning his career in theatre.
He was a charter member of the Arena Stage company in Washington, D.C., and appeared on Broadway in productions including The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Skyscraper, Promises, Promises and Tough to Get Help. His film roles include The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), The Front Page (1974), The Jerk (1979) as Frosty, Wolfen (1981) and The Mosquito Coast (1986). He appeared in numerous television series such as MASH, Cheers, Home Improvement and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air*.
O'Neill was married to Susan Jacqueline Shaw from 1964 and had three children. He died on 17 November 1998 in Santa Monica, California.
