Biography

Dion Anderson (1938–2026) was an American character actor. Born in Cameron, Texas, he served in the US Army before studying at universities in Texas and London. He earned a BA in English Literature and master's degrees in several subjects, including an MA in Fine Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). He began his professional career teaching Shakespeare in Florida and performed extensively on stage in classical roles including Julius Caesar, Henry VIII and Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Anderson appeared on screen from 1982, working mainly in television as police officers, military figures, judges and priests. His film roles included Cappy in Dying Young (1991), Head Bull Haig in The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and a shareholder in Mr. Deeds (2002). Television credits encompassed Sheriff Frass in The X-Files (1996), Zeus in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996), Zolan in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Burt in Gilmore Girls (2002–2005).
