Biography
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) was a Soviet composer. Born in Saint Petersburg, he studied piano and composition at the Petrograd Conservatory from 1919 to 1925.
He composed original scores for more than thirty films, including October (1928), Hamlet (1964) and King Lear (1971), often in collaboration with director Grigori Kozintsev. His Piano Concerto No. 2 featured in the 2000 Disney film Fantasia 2000.
