Biography
Don McKellar is a Canadian actor, writer and director. Born on 17 August 1963 in Toronto, Ontario, he studied English and theatre at the University of Toronto and began working in film and theatre in the late 1980s.
He is known for writing and directing Last Night (1998), which won the Prix de la Jeunesse at Cannes, and for screenplays including Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (1993), The Red Violin (1998) and Blindness (2008). McKellar has acted in films by Atom Egoyan and David Cronenberg, including Exotica (1994), eXistenZ (1999) and Crimes of the Future (2022). He wrote the book for the Tony Award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone and has appeared in Canadian television series such as Twitch City, Odd Job Jack and Slings & Arrows. He received two Genie Awards and is an eight-time nominee.
McKellar co-wrote the screenplay for No Other Choice (2025) with Park Chan-wook, Lee Kyoung-mi and Jahye Lee.
