Biography
Dorothy Malone was an American actress. Born Dorothy Eloise Maloney in Chicago, she began her film career in 1943 with small roles, mainly in B-movies, before appearing as the Acme Bookstore Proprietress in The Big Sleep (1946).
She achieved wider recognition after her performance as Marylee Hadley in Written on the Wind (1956), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her career included further film roles such as in The Tarnished Angels (1957) and Warlock (1959), followed by the television series Peyton Place (1964–1968) as Constance MacKenzie. Her final screen appearance was as Hazel Dobkins in Basic Instinct (1992). She died in 2018.
