Biography
Dyson Lovell was a British film and television producer, actor and casting director. Born in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), he trained at RADA and began his career as an actor, with early stage work at the Old Vic and on Broadway, and film roles including Sampson in Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet (1968).
He became known for long collaborations with Zeffirelli as producer on films including Endless Love (1981) and Hamlet (1990), and for his work as producer on the miniseries Lonesome Dove (1989). Other producing credits include The Cotton Club (1984), Jane Eyre (1996), Merlin (1998) and The Odyssey (1997). He received four Emmy Award and three Golden Globe nominations for his television productions. Lovell died in 2024.
