Biography

E. G. Marshall (born Everett Eugene Grunz) was an American actor. One of the first group selected for the Actors Studio, he had appeared in major Broadway productions by 1948.

He is best known for his film role as Juror 4 in 12 Angry Men (1957) and for starring as defence attorney Lawrence Preston in the CBS legal drama The Defenders (1961–1965), for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards. Other notable television work includes the role of neurosurgeon David Craig in The Bold Ones: The New Doctors (1969–1973). Among his later film appearances are Superman II (1980), Creepshow (1982), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), Nixon (1995) and Absolute Power (1997).

Marshall was born on 18 June 1914 in Owatonna, Minnesota, and died on 24 August 1998 in Bedford, New York.
