Biography

E.H. Calvert, also credited as Elisha Helm Calvert, was an American actor and film director. He was born on 27 June 1863 in Alexandria, Virginia, and died on 5 October 1941 in Hollywood, California.

He began performing in vaudeville and stock theatre after a military career as a Spanish-American War veteran. From 1912 he directed for the Essanay Company and appeared in more than 170 films, often in uniformed roles.

His credits include the Sylvanian Ambassador in The Love Parade (1929), Professor in Wagstaff's Study in Horse Feathers (1932), and Officer in Battle Sequence in Duck Soup (1933).
