Biography
Ed Brubaker is an American comic book writer, cartoonist and screenwriter. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, he began his career in the 1990s with independent and alternative comics, including the semi-autobiographical series Lowlife and work for Dark Horse Presents, before gaining wider recognition with Vertigo titles such as Scene of the Crime.
He achieved prominence writing for DC and Marvel on series including Batman, Catwoman, Gotham Central and Captain America, the latter featuring his co-creation of the Winter Soldier. Brubaker has won multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards. He frequently collaborates with artist Sean Phillips on creator-owned crime comics such as Criminal, Fatale and The Fade Out.
Brubaker has worked in television as a writer and supervising producer on the HBO series Westworld (2016). His other screen credits include creating and writing the Amazon series Too Old to Die Young (2019) and writing for Batman: Caped Crusader (2024).
