Biography
Ed Wheeler was an American actor. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on 18 February 1936, he began his career in the early 1970s with television commercials and stage work, later training under Gene Frankel and Irving Vincent.
Wheeler’s screen debut came in the 1987 film Broadcast News, in which he played George Wein. He appeared in films including Presumed Innocent (1990), Daylight (1996), Thinner (1996), Godzilla (1998) and Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), and had recurring guest roles on Law & Order (1992–2004). His final on-screen credit was a 2010 episode of Blue Bloods.
Wheeler received the Living Legend Award from the National Black Theatre Festival in 2017. He was married to actor and producer Messeret Stroman Wheeler, with whom he executive-produced the 2023 short film Keepers of the Flame. He died on 21 August 2024 in Englewood, New Jersey.
