Biography

Edgar Norton (born Harry Edgar Mills; 11 August 1868 – 6 February 1953) was an English-born American character actor. Born in London, he appeared on the London and Broadway stages before entering films in the silent era. His screen career, which lasted until the late 1940s, included both silent films and talkies.

Norton is credited as Master of Ceremonies in The Love Parade (1929). Among his other film roles were Poole in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), a part he had played on stage since 1898, Thomas Benson in Son of Frankenstein (1939), and uncredited appearances such as the London Hotel Manager in Top Hat (1935). He appeared in at least ninety films over a thirty-year period.
