Biography

Edward Ellis (also credited as Edward Mayne Ellis) was an American actor. He appeared in supporting roles in numerous films of the 1930s and early 1940s, including as Bomber Wells in I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932).

He had an earlier career on Broadway as an actor, producer and playwright, with credits from 1905 until the early 1930s. Ellis is also known for his performances as Clyde Wynant in The Thin Man (1934) and as the sheriff in Fury (1936).

Born in Coldwater, Michigan, he died in Beverly Hills, California, in 1952.
