Biography

Edwin Hodgeman is an Australian actor born on 26 June 1935 in Alberton, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. He trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, graduating in 1960 as part of its first intake of students.

Hodgeman began his career in Adelaide theatre in the 1950s and became a leading member of the South Australian Theatre Company from 1969. He originated the role of Ahmed in the 1968 Sydney production of Norm and Ahmed. His film roles include Bain in The Survivor (1981), Dr. Dealgood in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and the Soviet Society Secretary in Shine (1996). He received the Adelaide Critics Circle lifetime achievement award in 2006.
