Biography
Elizabeth Inglis (also credited as Elizabeth Earl) was an English actress. Born Desiree Mary Lucy Hawkins on 10 July 1913 in Colchester, Essex, she made her screen debut in the 1934 film Borrowed Clothes. She appeared uncredited as Pat, Professor Jordan's daughter, in Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (1935) and played Nancy in the 1939 BBC television production of Gas Light.
Inglis's best-known film role was as Adele Ainsworth in William Wyler's The Letter (1940), opposite Bette Davis. She was also credited as Elizabeth Earl in River's End (1940). She retired from acting after her 1942 marriage to American broadcasting executive Sylvester "Pat" Weaver. The couple had two children, including actress Sigourney Weaver. Inglis died on 25 August 2007 in Santa Barbara, California.
