Biography
Ellsworth Fredericks was an American cinematographer whose career spanned more than four decades. He began as an assistant cameraman at First National Studios in 1927 and became a director of photography in the early 1950s. He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers from 1954.
Fredericks photographed numerous features, including Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Friendly Persuasion (1956), Sayonara (1957) — for which he received an Academy Award nomination — Wild River (1960) and Seven Days in May (1964). He also contributed to television anthology series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and General Electric Theatre. He retired in 1969.
