Biography
Émile Chautard was a French-American film director, actor and screenwriter. Born in Paris on 7 September 1864, he began his career as a stage actor at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe and later became head of film production at Éclair Films' Paris studio in 1913.
He emigrated to the United States in 1915 and worked for the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Chautard directed more than 100 films between 1910 and 1924. From the mid-1920s he concentrated on acting and appeared in more than 60 films until his death on 24 April 1934 in Los Angeles.
His acting credits include Father Chevillon in 7th Heaven (1927), a French general (uncredited) in Morocco (1930), Major Lenard in Shanghai Express (1932), and a cabaret manager in Blonde Venus (1932).
