Biography
Eric Braeden, born Hans-Jörg Gudegast on 3 April 1941 in Bredenbek, Germany, is a German-American actor. He emigrated to the United States as a teenager and studied at the University of Montana. Early in his career he appeared under his birth name in guest roles before adopting the stage name Eric Braeden.
He played Dr. Otto Hasslein in the 1971 film Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Braeden is best known for his role as Victor Newman on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, which he has portrayed since 1980. Other credits include John Jacob Astor in Titanic (1997) and numerous television guest appearances. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1998 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
