Biography
Éric Gautier is a French cinematographer. He was born on 2 April 1961 in Paris and trained at the Louis Lumière film school, graduating in 1982.
Gautier began his career as an assistant camera operator before shooting short films and his first feature, La Vie des morts (1991), directed by Arnaud Desplechin. He has collaborated frequently with directors including Alain Resnais, Olivier Assayas and Desplechin. He won a César Award for Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train (1998).
His international work includes The Motorcycle Diaries (2004), for which he received an Independent Spirit Award, Into the Wild (2007), On the Road (2012) and Ash Is Purest White (2018).
