Biography

Ernst Stötzner is a German actor. Born in 1952 in Frankfurt am Main, he trained at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main from 1974 to 1976. He joined the ensemble of the Berliner Schaubühne in 1979 and has maintained a long association with the company, alongside engagements at theatres including the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Berliner Ensemble and the Wiener Burgtheater.

Stötzner has also worked as a theatre director since the late 1980s. His film and television credits include the role of Franz in Underground (1995), Dr Hans Hoffmeister in Frantz (2016), General Major Seegers in Babylon Berlin (2017), Rudolf Virchow in Charité (2017) and Wilhelm Hoffmann in Das Boot (2018). He received the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring in 2007 and was named Best Actor of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2002.
