Biography
Evan Wright (1964–2024) was an American writer and journalist. He studied medieval history at Vassar College and began his career in the mid-1990s writing for magazines including Hustler, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, producing long-form immersive reports on subcultures, crime and conflict.
He was best known for the book Generation Kill (2004), drawn from his embedded reporting with a US Marine reconnaissance battalion during the 2003 Iraq invasion. The book was adapted into an HBO miniseries in 2008, on which Wright served as writer and consulting producer. His later television writing credits include episodes of Homeland (2011), The Man in the High Castle (2015), The Bridge (2013), Dirty John (2018) and Dr. Death (2021). He received two National Magazine Awards.
