Biography
Everett Greenbaum (1919–1999) was an American television and film writer. Born in Buffalo, New York, he studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Sorbonne in Paris. After serving as a Navy pilot during the Second World War, he moved to New York and began writing for radio before entering television.
Greenbaum collaborated with Jim Fritzell for over two decades on more than 150 scripts. Their work included Mr. Peepers (1952–1955), The Real McCoys (1957–1962), The Andy Griffith Show (1960–1968) and MASH* (1972–1983), for which they contributed 35 episodes between 1974 and 1978. The partnership earned a Peabody Award, three Writers Guild of America awards and four Emmy nominations.
Greenbaum also wrote screenplays for feature films including Good Neighbor Sam (1964), The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966), The Reluctant Astronaut (1967) and The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968). He later wrote episodes for series such as The Odd Couple, The Love Boat and Sanford and Son, and appeared in small acting roles.
