Biography

Felix Bowness (30 March 1922 – 13 September 2009) was an English comedy actor. He was best known for playing the jockey Fred Quilley in the BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi! (1980–1988), appearing in all 58 episodes.

Bowness had earlier roles in series including Dad's Army, Are You Being Served? and Porridge. He later appeared in You Rang, M'Lord? (as Mr Pearson), Oh, Doctor Beeching! (as Bernie Bleasdale) and The Brittas Empire. He also worked extensively as a warm-up act for television shows such as Morecambe and Wise and Wogan.

Born in Harwell, Oxfordshire (then Berkshire), he served in the Royal Berkshire Regiment during the Second World War and was an amateur boxing champion before entering show business in the 1940s.
