Biography
Feodor Chaliapin Jr. (also credited as Feodor Chaliapine and Fëdor Fëdorovich Shalyápin) was a Russian-born actor who appeared in American and Italian films. The son of the celebrated operatic bass Feodor Chaliapin, he was born in Moscow on 6 October 1905 and died in Rome on 17 September 1992.
He began his career with bit parts in Hollywood silent films and later established himself as a character actor in both the United States and Italy, where he lived for nearly half a century. Among his notable roles were Kashkin in For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), Jorge de Burgos in The Name of the Rose (1986), the Old Man in Moonstruck (1987) and Leonides Cox in Stanley & Iris (1990).
