Biography
Fernando Velázquez is a Spanish composer, conductor and cellist of music for film, television and concert works. He studied cello at conservatories in Getxo, Bilbao and Vitoria, winning the Extraordinary Prize on completion of his studies, and continued his training in Madrid and Paris.
He is best known for his long collaboration with director J. A. Bayona, scoring The Orphanage (2007), The Impossible (2012) and A Monster Calls (2016), the last of which won him the Goya Award for Best Original Score. Other notable film scores include Crimson Peak (2015), Mama (2013), The Invisible Guest (2017) and Mirage (2018). He has also composed for television series and received awards including an IFMCA Award and a Latin Grammy.
