Biography

Fran Brill is an American actress and puppeteer. Born on 30 September 1946 in Chester, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Boston University College of Fine Arts and made her Broadway debut in the 1969 play Red, White and Maddox.

She joined Sesame Street in 1970 as the first female puppeteer hired by Jim Henson outside of Jane Henson. She created and performed characters including Prairie Dawn and Zoe, and appeared in films such as Being There (1979) as Sally Hayes, Midnight Run (1988) as Dana Mardukas and What About Bob? (1991) as Lily Marvin. Brill retired from puppeteering in 2014 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Children's and Family Emmy Awards.
