Biography
Frank Barhydt is an American screenwriter and occasional actor. He is best known for his long collaboration with director Robert Altman, co-writing the screenplays for Quintet (1979), HealtH (1980), Short Cuts (1993) and Kansas City (1996).
Barhydt studied journalism at the University of Kansas and worked as a reporter for the Kansas City Star and the Associated Press before moving to Hollywood. He wrote for a health magazine, an experience that contributed to his work on HealtH. With Altman he adapted Raymond Carver stories for Short Cuts, for which they received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Screenplay. Barhydt also appeared as an actor in Altman's The Player (1992) and the miniseries Tanner '88 (1988).
