Biography
Frank De Vol (also credited as Frank DeVol or De Vol) was an American composer, arranger, bandleader and actor. Born in Moundsville, West Virginia, he grew up in Canton, Ohio, and began his career in the 1920s and 1930s playing in and arranging for big bands, including those led by Horace Heidt and Alvino Rey. He settled in California in the 1940s, working in radio and as a musical director before moving into film scoring in the mid-1950s.
De Vol composed scores for more than fifty films. His credits include Kiss Me Deadly (1955), Pillow Talk (1959), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), Cat Ballou (1965), The Flight of the Phoenix (1965), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) and The Dirty Dozen (1967). He received five Academy Award nominations for his film work. He also composed theme music for television series including My Three Sons and The Brady Bunch, and appeared as an actor in several productions.
