Biography
Frank E. Woods (1860–1939) was an American screenwriter of the silent era. He wrote for approximately 90 films between 1908 and 1925, beginning his career as a writer with the Biograph Company. He is best known for his collaborations with director D. W. Griffith, including the screenplay for The Birth of a Nation (1915) and writing credits on Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages (1916).
Woods was also a pioneering film reviewer. He was one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He later publicly expressed regret for his involvement with The Birth of a Nation.
