Biography
D.W. Griffith was an American film director, producer, writer and editor. He was born David Wark Griffith on 22 January 1875 in Floydsfork, Kentucky, and died on 23 July 1948 in Hollywood, California.
Griffith directed The Birth of a Nation (1915), on which he was also credited as producer, writer, editor and with the music. He directed, produced and wrote Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) and directed and edited Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages (1916). Earlier he directed more than 400 short films, largely for the Biograph Company.
In 1919 Griffith co-founded United Artists with Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks.
