Biography
Fred Frith is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist. Born on 17 February 1949 in Heathfield, Sussex, he studied at the University of Cambridge, where he co-founded the avant-rock group Henry Cow in 1968.
He has composed original music for films including Before Sunrise (1995) and Rivers and Tides (2001). Other film credits include Leaning Into The Wind (2017), The Tango Lesson (1997) and The Party (2017). He has also written scores for theatre and dance.
Frith was Professor of Composition in the Music Department at Mills College in Oakland, California, until his retirement in 2018.
