Biography
Fred McCarren was an American actor who worked in film and television from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, he attended the University of Cincinnati and Point Park College before graduating from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. He began his career with television commercials in New York before moving into acting roles.
McCarren appeared in films including The Goodbye Girl (1977), Xanadu (1980) as Richie, The Boogens (1981), Class Reunion (1982), The Star Chamber (1983) and The Boost (1988). On television he had recurring or guest roles in series such as Amanda's (1983) and Hill Street Blues (1984), as well as appearances in The Golden Girls, Scarecrow and Mrs. King and Remington Steele.
