Biography
Frederic Raphael is an American-born British novelist, biographer, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Chicago on 14 August 1931, he was educated at Charterhouse and St John's College, Cambridge, and began his career with novels and journalism before moving into screenwriting.
He wrote the screenplays for Darling (1965), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), Two for the Road (1967) and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999). He has also written more than twenty novels, biographies of figures including Lord Byron and W. Somerset Maugham, and the memoir Eyes Wide Open (1999) about his collaboration with Kubrick.
