Biography
Frederick Loewe (1901–1988) was a German-born American composer best known for his collaborations with lyricist and librettist Alan Jay Lerner. Born in Berlin, he was a child prodigy who studied piano and composition before emigrating to the United States in 1924.
Loewe and Lerner created the scores for the Broadway musicals Brigadoon (1947), Paint Your Wagon (1951), My Fair Lady (1956) and Camelot (1960), as well as the original film musical Gigi (1958) and the film The Little Prince (1974). My Fair Lady and Gigi both received major awards, including Academy Awards for the latter.
