Biography
Frieda Inescort was a Scottish actress. Born Frieda Wrightman in Edinburgh, she adopted her mother's surname professionally. She made her Broadway debut in The Truth About Blayds (1922) and originated the role of Sorel Bliss in Noël Coward's Hay Fever (1925). Other stage credits included Escape (1927).
Inescort moved to Hollywood and made her film debut in The Dark Angel (1935). Her screen roles included Mary Beaton in Mary of Scotland (1936), Miss Caroline Bingley in Pride and Prejudice (1940), Dorothy Joyce in The Letter (1940), and Mrs Ann Vickers in A Place in the Sun (1951). She appeared in films and television until the early 1960s. She was married to writer Ben Ray Redman from 1926 until his death in 1961.
