Biography
Furio Scarpelli was an Italian screenwriter. Born in Rome on 16 December 1919, he began his career as a cartoonist and illustrator for satirical magazines during the Second World War. In 1949 he formed the writing partnership Age & Scarpelli with Agenore Incrocci, which lasted until the mid-1980s and produced scripts for more than 120 films.
Their collaborations include Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958), The Great War (1959) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Scarpelli later worked with Ettore Scola on films such as We All Loved Each Other So Much (1974). He received three Academy Award nominations for screenplays: The Organizer (1963), Casanova '70 (1965) and Il Postino (1994), the last written with his son Giacomo Scarpelli. Scarpelli died in Rome on 28 April 2010.
