Biography

Gabriella Martinelli is a Canadian film and television producer. Born in Italy, she emigrated to Canada with her family as a child. She studied art history and film at Carleton University in Ottawa and the University of Victoria in British Columbia.

Martinelli began her career in the early 1980s producing television commercials and variety specials, later coordinating Canadian features including Walls and My American Cousin. She served as head of production for Independent Pictures and worked as associate producer on John and the Missus and co-producer on Milk and Honey. Her feature credits include David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch (1991) and M. Butterfly (1993), Clive Barker’s Nightbreed (1990), Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996), Terry Gilliam’s Tideland (2005), and executive producer roles on High-Rise (2015) and After the Ball (2015).

In 2000 she founded Capri Films Inc. in Toronto, serving as president and CEO, and later established Martinelli Films in 2013. She has also produced television projects including the mini-series Lives of the Saints (2004).
