Biography
Gary Shteyngart, also credited as Igor Semyonovich Shteyngart, is a Soviet-born American novelist, screenwriter and occasional actor. Born on 5 July 1972 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), he emigrated to the United States in 1979 and was raised in Queens, New York. He holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from Hunter College.
Shteyngart is the author of several novels, including The Russian Debutante's Handbook (2002), Absurdistan (2006) and Super Sad True Love Story (2010). He wrote an episode of the HBO miniseries The Regime (2024) and served as consulting producer on the series. His acting credits include the role of Worthheimer in Experimenter (2015) and appearances in Arranged (2007) and other films and television.
