Biography
George Denis Patrick Carlin (12 May 1937 – 22 June 2008) was an American stand-up comedian, actor and author. He began his career in the 1950s and became known for observational and satirical routines on language, religion and politics.
Carlin appeared in films including Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) as Rufus, Dogma (1999) as Cardinal Glick, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) and Jersey Girl (2004). He also provided voice work for The Simpsons and Cars (2006).
He hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975 and released fourteen HBO stand-up specials. Carlin received five Grammy Awards for comedy albums and was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2008.
