Biography
George Reeves (born George Keefer Brewer) was an American actor. He began his career after training at the Pasadena Playhouse and made his film debut as Brent Tarleton in Gone with the Wind (1939). He appeared in supporting roles in films including The Strawberry Blonde (1941), Blood and Sand (1941), Samson and Delilah (1949) and From Here to Eternity (1953).
Reeves achieved lasting recognition for portraying Superman/Clark Kent in the television series Adventures of Superman (1952–1958) and the feature Superman and the Mole Men (1951). He also directed some episodes of the series. His other notable television work included an uncredited appearance in I Love Lucy (1951).
Reeves died in Los Angeles in 1959 at the age of 45 from a gunshot wound; the official ruling was suicide.
