Biography

Gerald Kyd is a Scottish actor of Greek descent. Born Gerasimos Avvakoumides in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1973, he moved to England at the age of 14. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 1997.

Kyd first gained prominence playing Sean Maddox in the BBC medical drama Casualty from 1998 to 2000, reprising the role in 2006. His television credits include Persons Unknown (2010), Sherlock (2016), Doctor Who (2021), The Split (2022), The Assassin (2025) and Hostage (2025). Film appearances include Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life (2003). He has also worked extensively in theatre, including with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

In 2026 he played Mylonas in the Netflix series Legends.
